Gediminas Castle
Vilnius was the 1st Baltic state I have visited, it has the Europe feel but is affordable compared to other European countries. My favourite sight in the capital is Gediminas Castle. When I was strolling in the Old Town, down the Pilies Street, I already see the hill, and the ruins of the castle. The walk up the ruins is not tough but if you prefer not to walk, the other side of the hill has a funicular that can bring you up. The walk up the hill is similar to the castle ruins in Rocca Maggiore in Assisi, Italy. I saw both the old town and the business district on top of the hill.
Vilnius Old Town
I saw the The Old Town of Vilnius on foot, I did not use their public transportation on my 1st day. I saw some narrow streets, walked through and reached other sights. I walked 3 kilometers from the old town, went through cobbled stone narrow streets, the streets are really quiet, not much cafes or souvenir shops which makes it a relaxing walk.
The Republic of Užupis
When I walked away fromthe Old Town, I saw this district, Užupis is quite small and isolated, and declared itself as independent and even has its own president.
The Gate of Dawn
The Chapel in the Gate of Dawn contains an icon of The Blessed Virgin Mother of Mercy, said to have miraculous powers. The photo on the left is what you see from afar. It was amazing from afar, I just don’t know how to get nearer, what I did in the end is joined a group of Polish pilgrims. Salamat, nakapag misa pa ako at nakita ko ng up close.
Amber
Amber is one of Baltic states’ products. I saw a lot of Amber shops in the center and as well as some in the side walks, I was just mindful buying the real amber by going to a reputable shop. Since I love earrings, I made sure I got one. Along with my amber earrings is the cheapest mug I found. As a budget traveller, I have my own mug, an instant coffee and grocery bought breakfast.
