Italy: Assisi, Province of Perugia
It was a 2 week travel for me, I started from Rome and ended up in Florence, and stopped in some major cities along the way. From Cascia, where I visited Saint Rita, by bus I headed to Perugia, is one of the University cities in Italy.
It was holiday season, and there were not a lot of buses, make sure you do not miss yours. If you arrive in Perugia by bus, you have to go up by either walking or take a bus to go to the Center. I had a short stay here and I was accompanied by my Couchsurfing host. From Perugia, we went by car to Assisi, it was around 30 minutes drive. This was December 27, what an amazing weather for walk up the Fortress.
And now we are in Assisi, this is the birthplace of Saint Francis and Saint Clare.
We headed up first in Rocca Maggiore. It was a relaxing walk going up and since we went up 1st, there was not much tourist around. The view from top was amazing, I saw Spoleto Valley, where I was the other day. Blue Skies and the clouds, simply spectacular.
From Rocca Maggiore we headed down to Saint Francis de Assisi’s Basilica, it was a bit crowded.
I did not buy any souvenir with me, just took photos and had a good lunch, in Italy, there are always good finds.
Time for us to head back to Perugia, there was not much to see in Perugia, there was a castle within the city, but did not take photos. I am heading to my next destination..Pisa.
